Crepe has a slightly grainy surface and a heavier fall than georgette, and holds digital print with strong colour depth.
Yarn arrives as polyester or viscose filament, is texturised and twisted, then woven into grey fabric on the city's looms. The grey cloth goes to a processing house for dyeing, printing and finishing. From there it moves to embroidery and value-addition job workers, then to a saree house in one of the Ring Road markets, which packs it into a catalog and sells it on to traders across India.
Surat works almost entirely in man-made fibre, and crepe is handled at every stage inside a compact industrial radius — weaving, processing, embroidery and trading all within the same city. That is why a design can move from idea to finished catalog here faster than almost anywhere else.
