Chiffon is a sheer, soft-falling fabric used for printed and lightly worked sarees where the drape matters more than the body.
Yarn arrives as polyester or viscose filament, is texturised and twisted, then woven into grey fabric on the city's looms. The grey cloth goes to a processing house for dyeing, printing and finishing. From there it moves to embroidery and value-addition job workers, then to a saree house in one of the Ring Road markets, which packs it into a catalog and sells it on to traders across India.
Surat works almost entirely in man-made fibre, and chiffon is handled at every stage inside a compact industrial radius — weaving, processing, embroidery and trading all within the same city. That is why a design can move from idea to finished catalog here faster than almost anywhere else.
